Astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611-1687) is said to have produced the first reasonably accurate chart and description of the Moon.
His nomenclature of the Moon's features did not prove popular and it is said that after his death the copper plate used to print his map was made into a teapot.

Transverse Molliweide World

This unusual map of the Earth is a Transverse Molliweide projection centred on New Zealand. It shows the whole Earth in an equal area projection, with the North Pole near the top, and Antarctica just below the middle. It was produced using software written by the author.
